Health and Disability

Through a cooperative agreement with the National Center on Birth Defects and Developmental Disabilities at the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention, NACCHO received funds to support local health departments (LHDs) in health promotion for people living with disabilities. NACCHO's Health and Disabilities Project provides LHDs with practical strategies and recommendations, including tools and materials developed by demonstration sites,and relevant information from partner organizations.

The purpose of the project is to:

  • Inform and educate LHDs about disability and health activities;
  • Provide support to the five current demonstration sites to enhance their efforts;
  • Assist demonstration sites in determining ways of sharing their methods of measurement;
  • Develop and share model practices related to health promotion activities for people living with disabilities; and
  • Provide technical assistance to LHDs through a peer assistance network.
