NACCHO has a long history of helping LHDs address adolescent mortality and morbidity. The goals of the program are to build NACCHO's capacity to address adolescent health needs and to enhance LHDs' ability to identify and meet the health needs of adolescents in their communities.
This election season has fostered one of the most wide-spread youth involvement movements in political history. In addition to new voter registration efforts and young voter (ages 18-25) mobilization, youth political involvement has been at an all-time high. This month, NACCHO's Adolescent Health project is highlighting organizations and programs that have used aspects of positive youth development to increase adolescent's participation, sense of empowerment, knowledge, and self-worth. The methods effectively used in these programs to generate participation and leadership among youth can be used in other efforts towards increasing youth involvement.
